The term “native” refers to a geographic area of origin. Native plants are the species that naturally developed and occur within a specific region. In the United States, a plant is considered native to an area if it was established without influence from European settlement.
Native Plants are the foundation upon which all life depends; including us! Native wildlife and native plants developed alongside each other, so they share intricate relationships. Birds, insects, mammals- they often depend on native plants for survival. And it’s that wildlife that in turn sustains our own food sources. Native plants are instrumental in water filtration, soil stabilization, pollution capture, and air quality improvement. So plant native, and enjoy the ease and beauty of the habitat you create.
Buckthorn’s Native Nursery is a locally owned business committed to restoring the health and beauty of Arkansas habitat. We believe every person has the ability to positively influence the natural world by planting native. Whether it’s planting a couple pots of native plants on a high-rise balcony, or hundreds of acres of restored prairie; it all matters. Our plants are grown from sustainably sourced seeds, often collected from private and public lands within central Arkansas (with permission). We are neonicotinoid-free and do not use systemic pesticides, such as neem oil.
